The Maldives isn’t known for golf, and for good reason. The Maldives is Asia’s smallest country by land area, an island split in the middle of the Indian Ocean, leaving most clubs with little room to swing.

Beginners can contact professionals for private lessons, with free sessions available. There is a driving range, practice green and indoor simulator for your convenience. But the best part is that you don’t need to pack all your equipment, you can play barefoot in your swimsuit if you want.

There are many other fields in Javakara, including, in addition to golf, three paddle tennis courts, two of which are covered, as well as tennis courts, badminton courts and a full-fledged football field.

Golfing at the Maldives Resort

Jawaharlal Neighborhood, a relatively large resort that opened in October 2023, has a nine-hole golf course, one of a handful in the entire archipelago. Located on the southern tip of the resort’s largest island (there are two), the course is more pitch-and-putt than long-distance driving, but treacherous sand traps and obstructing palm trees will test the skills of even experienced players.

Guests on Jawahar’s premium all-inclusive package mostly stay on the smaller island. There are 88 overwater beach villas similar in size and layout to Mabin, as well as restaurants, bars and an infinity pool.

I spent a lovely week there with my family at Jawhar. My family and I both enjoyed every moment of our stay and the quality of our stay was unforgettable. From the amenities on the island to the overall facilities and the smallest details of the room, the restaurant staff were extremely friendly.

Restaurant selection

The rooms/villas were very clean and furnished with high quality materials. Speaking of food, the menu was excellent and there was a good selection of restaurants to choose from.

In addition to unlimited great food and water at the restaurants and bars, there were several other perks advantages, such as access to a golf course on the island, bicycles to explore the island, at no extra charge.

I stayed at Nika Bar on Mabin Island and ate at Aila Restaurant, the atmosphere is lovely. The restaurant has a playroom for young children which makes for a very enjoyable environment for the children. Our experience at this resort was amazing, from the staff to the accommodation to the facilities, the resort is 5 star.

Windsurfing and snorkeling twice

The sea water was clear so we tried windsurfing and snorkeling twice at the house reef by boat. First we booked the turtle tour but I had to cancel the safari due to strong winds. For this, we were taken to the Dhiffushi Beiru snorkeling site by boat. The staff were very friendly and professional and were able to find some sea turtles for us.

We also snorkeled at the Mabin Water Pool Villa near the bridge and it was pretty good there were lots of fish and we got to see a sea turtle.

We booked the Sunset Dolphin Cruise but that was also cancelled due to bad weather. We didn’t get to enjoy it much due to the bad weather. We ended up going and enjoying a great sunset and seeing lots of dolphins.

Golf for beginners and enthusiasts

One of the attractions of the Jawakara Golf Experience is its accessibility. Guests do not have to be professional golfers to enjoy the course. Beginners can learn basic techniques in a friendly and relaxed environment, while experienced golfers can enjoy precision play and a pleasant challenge.

Professional instructors and support staff are available to assist guests, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable experience. This makes the Javara Islands an excellent introduction to golf for travelers who are trying the sport for the first time.
